A pre digital
image created using a combination of creative wet darkroom techniques &
two different start negatives - or more precisely one black & white negative
& one colour slide. The background shot of the tree, setting sun
& small figure walking through the gateway in the wall was taken one
evening at Bradgate Park, just to the north of Leicester & the colour
slide of the owl at a steam rally. The owl image was posterised with
35mm lith film & then manually montaged onto the background. The
combination image was then re-photographed, printed onto black & white
paper, the sun hand tinted and finally the owl sepia toned after masking
the rest of the print with liquid masking solution. There was a little more
to it than this but to explain would be to labour the point; the final moody
image justifies the work that was involved. Stuart Hewins DPAGB |
