Photographed
on Loughrigg Fell late one evening in May 2006. At the time I spotted
this dramatic image I was searching for Lily tarn and hoping I found it before
the sun went behind a heavy cloud on the horizon. To get this photograph
I needed to use the long end of a 70mm - 300mm lens with my camera securely
fixed to my tripod & I had to take several shots at different exposures
to ensure success. I had only just finished when the sun was lost. Apart
from the dramatic lighting the composition benefits from the pictorially
satisfying contrast between the bright yellowish green of the tree &
the rather reddish tone that the low lighting has given to the dry bracken.
